Hbcu reddit. r/HBCU: This subreddit is for students, alumni & prospects of Historically Black Colleges & Universities I’m a junior at Morgan State University, and I absolutely love it. I can remember everybody getting dressed up to go to the Cafe and it was most definitely a thing. I want that for everyone. I want a challenge and attend a prestigious school, but it looks to me like most HBCUs, especially the smaller ones, tend to admit anyone. If you decide you’re going to have a great time then you will. Of course there’s some people who don’t love their HBCUS as much but I always say your experience is what you make of it. Your comment reads as very ignorant. You are not guaranteed a better experience at an HBCU. Admission/testing statistics for HBCUs are quite a step down from my scores, to the point where my scores are higher than 98% of the students admitted, even at the more famous HBCUs like Howard and Hampton. I attended an HBCU for undergrad, a PWI for my master's, and an HBCU for my PhD. Okay so from your perspective, should HBCUs and majority black institutions exist at all? Because if a bunch of white people are applying to HBCUs, it destroys the purpose that these HBCUs serve. I want more black people to find their own safe place to unlearn that whole mindset of Hbcu's aren't an option for whatever reason. My mom met a few white students at her hbcu undergrad, and they fit in just fine. I'm happy this sub exists to give a internet second home for black folks How are HBCU's doing currently with regard to enrollment and funding? What's the future of HBCU's likely to look like in the decades to come? While across higher education in general women tend to be in greater numbers, this is further exacerbated at HBCUs But overall I just see alot of negative discourse surrounding HBCUs in particular and wanted to open a discussion over this topic (as opposed to the typical reductive topics this subreddit likes to rehash). It was challenging, but I eventually evolved and became more comfortable within my own skin and style. So for us to see white and or other minorities coming to an HBCU “taking our opportunities” is distasteful. My advice is be active on campus! HBCU’s was created to give black students a safe space and appropriate education environment because we didn’t have that same opportunity as white people. My student loan debt (and emotional stress) came from the HBCUs. Believe me when I tell you, you don't want that debt. It's college so I would expect the student body would have a level of maturity that is welcoming to those who are different. . Are you familiar with the history of the US and the cultural significance and importance of historically black The Astros Foundation is excited to host the first annual HBCU Classic, a round-robin collegiate baseball tournament highlighting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Give Texas State more time. Hbcu's aren't perfect but damn every kid who came into my hbcu with that attitude found a safe community to unpack all that learned bs about not being black enough. I went to an HBCU right after high school in 2006 and this was my experience OP. If you want everyday to be something like out of a movie, an HBCU (regardless of race) is definitely for you. PWI's - yes, even the top tier party ones - simply are not on the level of atmospheric enjoyment and societal comfort that HBCU's provide.
